Lots of women in Salento are talented enough to make beautiful handmade lace. The pieces are produced using a traditional Salentine loom made from olive wood. The tradition of making these table centerpieces are handed down from Mother to Daughter. There are two forms of making. One is named chiacchierino, which is a method using your fingers, the other is tombolo, made by weaving threads around each other with the pattern pinned onto a pillow.
